Define a content schema

Updated Nov 8, 2026 Based on Salesforce Personalization functional documentation and web research, 2026-11-08

A content schema defines the shape of the data a personalization decision returns — which item attributes to include and in what format — so every response for a given personalization point looks the same across channels. Set one up before you build a personalization point or decision.

Configure a content schema

  1. From the App Launcher, search for and open Personalization Content Schema, then click New.
  2. Select the data space the schema uses.
  3. Select a personalization type: Recommendations or Dynamic Content.
  4. Name the schema — the API name auto-generates — add an optional description, then click Next.
  5. Add personalization attributes: text fields a marketer fills in when building a decision, such as header text, call-to-action text, or a URL.
  6. For a Dynamic Content schema, click Save here.
  7. For a Recommendations schema, click Next, then select the DMO that’s the root of your item data graph as the data source.
  8. Select the DMO fields — and optionally up to five related objects’ fields — that the decision response returns, then save.
